Pure Gold !
Gold is a precious metal that has been valued by people since ancient times. People use gold for coins, jewelry, ornaments, and many industrial purposes. Gold is a very soft metal when it is pure (24 Ct. is pure gold). It is the most malleable (hammerable) and ductile (able to be made into wire) metal. So gold is usually alloyed (mixed with other metals, often silver and copper) to make it less expensive and harder.
The common Gold alloy to be used in any good quality gold jewel is 22 ct Gold. It means that the gold is 91.6 % pure and hence the name 916 Pure Gold, an internationally accepted standard.
A hallmark is an official mark (or a series of marks) made in metal that indicates the fineness of the metal and the manufacturer's mark. For example, a hallmark of 916 indicates 916 parts of gold per 1000 weight. Hallmarking certifies that the jewelry conforms to National/International Standards of Purity. In India, the BIS, i.e., Bureau of Indian Standards undertakes certification of purity of gold jewelry in accordance with Indian Standards IS:1417 Grades of Gold & Gold Alloys. So it is advisable to buy gold jewels from Hallmarked Jewellers.
Every hallmarked jewel consists of the BIS logo, fineness number - caratage and mark of the BIS recognized assaying and hallmarking centre.
